Tree House has continued to crank out more cans as their new brewing system comes online. Present moment is an American Pale ale, that when I tasted it, reminded me guava and orange juice. Really smooth, not heavily carbonated, creamy mouthfeel. I enjoyed!

The curiosity series from Tree House is their experimental series, in which they brew one-off batches, of typically (always?) hoppy ales. Curiosity thirteen is no exception, clocking in at 6.6% ABV. A very good IPA, drinkable but still a nice hop bite. Drank from the can rather than glassware, just because.

Tree House Brewery consisntently releases beers that amaze me. A recent release for them, and the first from their new larger brew system is called Lights On. The copy from TH's guys is "A modern American Pale Ale brewed to celebrate a new beginning here at Tree House! Lights On pours a gorgeous hazy orange in the glass, releasing an aroma filled with a bounty of sweet fresh fruit. We taste papaya, guava, and mango - a fresh and distinctive flavor profile that’s wholly Tree House. Buoyed by a soft and fluffy mouthfeel, Lights On is a delight to drink. We’re excited to share it with you!" According to the head brewer, Nate, this is similar to the Lights Out beer released recently, but utilizes Mosiac hops over Citra.
Tree House Brewery has developed substantially over the past two years into far and away the highest quality brewery in Western Massachusetts. It started from a humble background in the backyard of the family homestead of one of the founders. After legal troubles with the town and neighbors, which prompted a move from Brimfield to another family member's farm in Monson, the brewery was operating out of a small temporary space, using a 5 barrel brew system. During this period of time, the brewery continued to gain notoriety both in the community and on the internet, for both its hoppy beers such as mainstays Julius, Green and Haze to their dark beers including Double Shot and all its variants as well as their most "hyped" beer Good Morning, made with local maple syrup. They even released a bottled offering of a saison called Lucid. Now, they have outgrown their 5 barrel system and the temporary structure and are moving into a much larger 30 barrel system across the road in a newly constructed building. They have purchased canning equipment and have already had several test batches of cans including Lights Out and Green. Things continue to look positive for Tree House, with the promise of expanded hours, larger batch sizes, and the continued ability to pump out creative new brews on the smaller brewing system. All of it is very exciting!

Although it is fairly rural and bucolic, it is a short trip to the various beer meccas of New England, such as Vermont, Boston, and Portland, ME. Western Mass is anchored by Springfield, although the epicenter of the craft beer world is 20 miles up the Connecticut River in Northampton, MA. A college city full of liberals and open minded New Englanders means that craft beer flows freely. There are a number of great brewpubs in the area as well as several production breweries and an excellent craft beer scene. The top notch distribution that MA gets means that you will be able to fill your cellar with craft beer from around the country and the world in the region's high quality "package stores."
Provisions: Located in Northampton center, this a very convenient bottle shop, right near plentiful parking. They have a great beer selection, both chilled and on the shelf, not a ton of special or limited releases, but they will definitely have a diverse selection, especially of MA beers. Meat, Cheeses, other local products and tons of wine round out the selection. 30 Crafts Ave. Northampton, MA
